Health authorities tried around 650,000 individuals and it was reported that “handfuls” of instances of the South African variation were found in Wandsworth and Lambeth.
The figures delivered today would not have incorporated any cases of the variation found in the COVID Surge testing – as it requires a couple of days for results to be affirmed.

The news comes as a Covid variation with a “twofold transformation” was identified in the UK subsequent to having first emerged from India.

A sum of 77 instances of the variation, known as B.1.617, have been found accross the nation, over – 73 in England and four in Scotland – in the days paving the way to 14 April, the most recent update from PHE uncovered.
The strain is of specific concern since it highlights two transformations in the spike protein joined in a similar infection, inciting fears it could be more infectious or less susceptible to immunizations.
