Chelsea chase Lewandowski as Haaland stays put

Chelsea are plotting a rather surprising move for €50 million valued, 32 year old Pole striker, Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski in action for Bayern Munich

Chelsea paid £47 million for Timo Werner last season and the German striker didn’t set Stamford Bridge alight. Thomas Tuchel sees the need for a new striker to lead his attack.

After having informal bids of €150 million plus Hudson Odoi and Tammy Abraham as makeweights rejected by the Borussia Dortmund hierarchy. Chelsea seems to have turned their sights to Bayern Munich in a bid to sign Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has a contract that expires in 2 years time and he has said in the past that he is open to a new challenge provided it’s the ‘right challenge’. The striker had an exceptional season, breaking Gerd Muller’s record of goals in a single Bundesliga campaign with 41 goals.

Borussia Dortmund have a clause to sell Halaand for €75 million next summer and they are keen to wait it out till then unless they receive a ridiculous offer, which has not come yet. The German club do not want to lose both Sancho and Halaand in the same window.

Chelsea on their part recognize that they will rather pay a premium fee for the Norwegian striker now, rather than enter a battle with other European clubs next season for his signature.

Haaland has been a phenomenal player since signing for Dortmund in January last year, scoring at a rate of almost one per match.
Speaking to reporters after returning for preseason, the 20 year old striker spoke of his desire to win more trophies with Dortmund.
