European Champions, Barcelona surely shocked the world as they beat “The Gunners’ who had not lost any of their past 9 consecutive WSL and Champions League fixtures.
Though Barcelona bossed Arsenal throughout the First Half, they didn’t score until the 30th Minute as Mariona Caldentey took two touches and scored after Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger parried Oshoala’s low near post strike.
Barcelona women made the score 2 nil in the 42nd Minute off an assist from Oshoala, she managed to draw the ball back and pick out Alexia who’s strike found the back of the net from almost 8 yards out.
Arsenal women appealed an Offside position against Oshoala in the build up to their second goal but all were in vain as the referee had blown the whistle for Goal and also there was no VAR in group stages (Assuming Oshoala was in an Offside position, there was nothing anyone could do about it).
Half time ended with ‘The Gunners’ 2 nil down courtesy of Mariona Caldentey and Asisat Oshoala. Just 2 minutes into the second Half, Oshoala seized the opportunity to triple Barca’s Lead and that she did after beating Manuela Zinsberger with a Low Ball.
Arsenal grabbed a late consolation Goal in the 73rd minute via Maanum – Arsenal won a Free Kick and Tobin Heath sent the ball across the penalty area and Manuum scored making sure Barca didn’t leave with a Clean Sheet.
Barcelona weren’t quite satisfied with the score, Lieke Martens played in behind Arsenal’s Defence, dribbled past 2 Gunners Defenders and then Shoved the ball past Arsenal’s Goalee to make it 4-1. Just as Added time was about done, Jordan Nobbs lunged in to try to win the ball from Alexia; The Referee, Jana Adamkova blew her whistle and pointed to the spot.
Alexia missed the Penalty. She fired her effort down the centre, hoping Zinsberger would dive early. The Arsenal goalkeeper was on her way left but not so quickly that she wasn’t able to save comfortably and then the match ended 4-1 as the European Champions thumped their Authority.
